I am delighted to be the eighth Rector of this parish. I follow in the footsteps of some holy and creative men. My journey to St. James' began many years ago. I grew up in a small village in Upstate New York. Church was central to our lives. Often, South Pasadena reminds me of that village but without the weather! I moved to California in 1976 and have never regretted a day of it. Within the urban and suburban complexities of the greater Los Angeles area, South Pasadena is much like a small home town that reflects the values of people who care about one another. I began a career change from a background in health care to that of soul care twenty years ago. My degree, a Masters of Divinity, is from the Theological School at Claremont. Prior to St. James, I was an associate rector for a number of years at All Saints’ Church in Beverly Hills and prior to that, assisted at St. Matthias in Whittier. My husband David works for the Diocese of Los Angeles and our children, Christopher and Meghan are in graduate school.

I was born and raised in Israel/Palestine to a Palestinian Christian family. As an Episcopal priest’s kid, I had a strong Christian upbringing, which served as the foundation for a religious awakening that took place at age 19 while I was attending Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. I always say that during college I became involved in the two most important relationships of my life: my relationship with Jesus and my relationship with my wife, Tanory. After college, I served as music minister at a nondenominational church for two years, and after that, Tanory and I moved to California, where we attended Fuller Theological Seminary. After completing my Masters of Divinity at Fuller, we moved to Alexandria, Virginia, for one year, where I completed a certificate in Anglican Studies at Virginia Theological Seminary. I was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in January 2007. One of the things Tanory and I enjoy most is spending time in the outdoors, and our passion revolves around helping others become a part of God’s work for peace and justice in the world.
