Earlier this summer, when we launched the capital campaign, we knew we were setting challenging financial goals for St. James’. There are numerous upgrades we need to make: air conditioning the sanctuary; modernizing our electrical system in the parish hall and office building; upgrading the organ; improving the accessibility of the offices; and much more.
Our goal of $1.5 million includes building our congregation’s financial endowment. We have experienced some amazing generosity by our Parish with nearly 50 pledges and gifts totaling over $900,000. That includes a designated bequest of $200,000. Pledges continue to come in!
We are thrilled that our Buildings and Grounds committee can now move forward on planning. We’ve also heard from many members and friends that they will consider giving even more generously if we wait until the end of this year or the beginning of next year for them to finalize their pledges.
Any pledge can be a one-time gift or a pledge of multiple gifts over a one to five-year period. The Capital Campaign Committee and the Rector have heard the request by many that we wait until the end of this year to finalize the campaign. So, we are extending the capital campaign through February 2020. We will conduct our annual pledge campaign, as planned in October, and then continue our Capital Campaign in mid-November through February.
Our Capital Campaign in-gathering on Sunday, September 15 blessed and gave thanks for all the pledges and gifts that have been made so far. Please see Allison Rector, John Cate, or another member of the Capital Campaign Committee if you have any questions.
Living in gratitude,
The Rev. Canon Anne Tumilty
