Rector's Update: Feast of St. James Eucharistic Service

On Sunday, July 26th, we will celebrate the Feast of St. James with small group Eucharistic Services on our patio. It is a blessing for us to return to the Lord’s Table. We are pleased that music for our patronal liturgy will be provided by musicians from Los Angeles Baroque who have offered their music as a gift to our church.

We hope to have an 8:00 am and 9:30 am service on this day. Please indicate which service you would prefer to attend by calling (626-799-9194) or emailing the church. We will do our best to accommodate the time you request but know that we cannot guarantee the time you may prefer. You will be contacted by email or phone to confirm your service time.

We can safely accommodate 30 socially distanced, masked and health screened parishioners for each service. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. If you plan to attend, please email the church office (office@sjcsp.org) no later than noon on Thursday, July 23rd. We will need to know the name of each person attending.

Please know that we will do our best to minimize risk, but attending any gathering is a risk especially for the elderly. Know that we will be outside, wearing masks, having preassigned seating, and staying distant one from another.

Observing an abundance of caution, we will protect one another by adhering to the following:

Cones will be placed in the parking lot to maintain distance between groups arriving in cars. Temperatures will be taken prior to admitting you to the patio. If you have a temperature, you will not be admitted to the service. You will be asked to use the hand sanitizer provided. A mask must completely cover the mouth and nose area and remain securely in place at all times. Everyone must wear a mask. Social distancing of at least 6 feet between yourself and others not in your household group is required. Please refrain from hugging or touching another. Please do not elbow, fist or foot bump greetings.

At the PEACE, you will be asked not to leave where you have been seated. Nodding is an appropriate form of greeting. Children are required to stay seated with the family group. Please do not allow your child to wander during the service. Note that the playground is not open for use at this time. One restroom has been made available if needed. It is located adjacent to the entrance to the school. Please know that only one person is allowed to use the restroom at a time. A sexton must disinfect the restroom following use by each person. Communal Prayers are to be said quietly (whisper) by the congregation.

At the time of Communion, you will be asked to remain in place until invited to come forward for communion. Specific directions will be provided at that time. You will be asked not to lower your mask to receive the host until you have returned to your seat. Only the host will be distributed at communion. Following the service, please allow space and social distancing for each family group to leave separately. Please do not remain to visit either on the patio or in the parking lot following the service. Each chair will be cleansed in preparation for the next service.

You are NOT to attend if: You are ill, or currently caring for someone who is ill. If you have traveled by plane or other public transportation, have socialized in a large group, or if you have cared for or have had close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 2 weeks.

Given all of the above, it is our hope to maintain a safe and prayerful worship service as we celebrate our feast day during this challenging time.
