Dear Beloved of St. James,
Yesterday we heard that cases are surging in Los Angeles County and the case rate has more than doubled in the past month. The County is strongly advising everyone to stay home if at all possible and to avoid group gatherings. According to our Senior Warden, Dr. Lucy Jones, the concern is that the virus is once again growing exponentially because people are taking more risks. If this trend continues, we would hit 10,000 new cases a day by Christmas just in Los Angeles County. Now, when the vaccine is in sight, is not the time to give up and let the virus get out of control. We need to be vigilant and protect our community.
Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to worship online for the next two weeks. The service will be live streamed (view here) from the patio at 9:00 am. The congregation is asked to remain home. We will re-evaluate this decision every two weeks as we move through the Season of Advent. This is a difficult decision for us, and I assure you that we will return to in-person worship on the patio as soon as possible.
I encourage you to attend our Compline Service at 8:00 pm each evening and to gather and visit with friends at our virtual coffee time every Sunday at 11:30 am. Links to both events can be found on the worship schedule page. We will post a virtual Thanksgiving Service on Wednesday night, November 25th, on our website and Facebook page.
Please stay safe. Please know that you are in our prayers each day.
